Autumn’s End

Here comes the rain again
Falling on my head like a memory
            Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart, 1983

a storm came
to central park
washing away
the colored leaves

fallen foliage
spongy underfoot
as it clutters my path

soon the branches
will be bare
making room
for the germs

i return home
recalling
the spring
